Silo Clock is both a kinetic sculpture and a functional timepiece, which alters its appearance through time. The designers wanted to portray the passing of time with a poetic sensibility: just like time itself, the clock never feels the same each time you look at it. The challenge was to bring such an artistic object into the domain of mass-production. After a year long development process Poetic Lab produced this design in 2016 under its own design brand Beyond Object.
Poetic Lab is a London-based studio founded in 2013 by Taiwanese designer Hanhsi Chen after he graduated from Royal College of Art in London. The studio shares a design vision where design is a silent poetry composed by mind and matter. The studio was awarded the Design Report Award in 2013 during Salone del Mobile. ELLE Decoration China chose Poetic Lab as their Young Design Talent of 2013, and in 2015 they were awarded Rising Asian Talent by Maison & Objet. In 2014 the Poetic Lab curated their own design label “Beyond Object” with the belief that daily objects can be crafted as functional sculptures.
