Hairy Creature Speakers
These speakers are like friendly pets to have around. You can take them for a walk and enjoy their glow in the dark. On request of Yamaha, Studio Tord Boontje has transformed these industrially produced speakers into handcrafted objects. This approach to technology stems from the studio’s desire to make everyday objects warm, characterful and materially interesting. The exaggerated handle on top clearly expresses the portability of this rechargeable Bluetooth speaker and references transmission antennas. The light is amplified by a custom made acrylic lens, which also functions as a sound reflector.
Studio Tord Boontje
Tord Boontje is known for his expression of romanticism in contemporary design. Originally from the Netherlands, Boontje’s education at the Eindhoven Design Academy and the Royal College of Art in London set the foundations for Studio Tord Boontje. Established in 1996, the studio’s early projects were already in the area of mass production as well as experimental one-off pieces. The studio has since worked with international companies on a range of products that includes lighting, graphic identity, textiles, ceramics, site-specific installations, and furniture. Work can be found in major museum collections such as the Victoria and Albert Museum and MoMA in New York.
